Nice but limited
The one I received through Amazon was actually through Discovery.com. Got it cheaper on Amazon than I could directly from Discovery?????? 1st unit came and it was broken. Discovery.com sent a new unit at once with no issues. I didn't even have the paperwork they claimed was needed from the 1st shipment. They didn't even want the old unit back. This toy would be better with an on/off switch rather than the wide-up function it comes with. It either runs too long or (in most cases) it shuts off too soon requiring you to crank it back up which causes the "soothing" process to start again. Kid loves the thing though!

Great for bedtime ritual - birth to age 6!
We received this as a gift for my son (now almost 6 years old) when he was a baby. It was from a physician friend of ours with three grown infantren who swore by it. At the time, we thought it seemed a little antiquated. However, we used it nearly every night when we would put our son down to sleep in the hopes that the ritual would help him to fall asleep. We think it worked pretty well at that time.
We stopped using it for a year or two for some reason, I think because the bulb burned out and we didn't get around to replacing it. Well, we started using it again about a year ago when we were having some sleep difficulting with him. He was having nightmares and was afraid to go to sleep by himself in his room. This was the perfect answer. I don't know if he remembered the lullaby and that soothed him or if having the nightlight and music helped or what? But, it's been a lifesaver, even at this age. Now, he won't go to sleep without it. Also, if he wakes in the night and is afraid, this will help sooth him back to sleep. It sure beats us staying with him or having him cry it out.
It's true that it only lasts about 5 minutes and the images are not particularly clear on the ceiling. But, he doesn't care about that too much. He sleeps on the bottom bunk and when it's on the floor it shines on the underside of the top bunk just fine. He's also usually sound asleep by the time the thing shuts off. Miracle! This from a kid who used to get up out of bed 5 or 6 times before finally settling down.
We love this product and are thinking we might need another one as we are now expecting a baby girl and I don't think my son is ready to give his up!
