Description
Young infantren love to play at being "grown-up" -- in fact, it's a crucial part of their development. With the Fisher-Price Little Mommy Gotta Go Doll, their role playing is taken to a whole new level. Designed for girls ages three and up, the Gotta Go Doll moves, talks, asks for help -- and comes with her own "bathroom," where your infant can play "mommy" by helping her use the toilet, brush her teeth, and more.
Brush her teeth to hear realistic sounds. View larger. |
Enjoy imaginative play without real water or a real mess. View larger. | | What We Think Fun Factor:
Durability: (what this means)
The Good: Potty-training doll uses her own potty with no real water and no mess.
The Bad: Some of the doll's phrases are not always easy to understand.
In a Nutshell: Doll with realistic sounds and interactive phrases make exciting role-playing fun for little girls. | At a Glance Ages: 8 and older Requires: 6 AAA Batteries | | | Interactive Doll Makes Roll-Playing More Fun The adorable toddler doll comes dressed in a cute T-shirt and a pair of "big girl" panties. She has positionable arms and legs, bright friendly eyes, and curly pigtails and bangs that can be combed with the included brush. The doll comes with her own bathroom accessories: a toilet, sink, and two bathroom shelves that hold the included toothbrush, toothpaste tube, hairbrush, cup, soap dispenser, and towel. The doll can be extracted relatively easily from the box, but it takes an adult with wire cutters or a pair of tough scissors to do it. Once she and her bathroom accessories are out, you'll need to install fresh batteries: the doll takes 3 AA batteries, as does the bathroom unit. Press the button on her tummy to get the doll started. She will turn her head from side to side, move her arms up and down, and begin "talking." She has a set of randomized phrases, including, "I'm a big girl!" "Hi, Mommy!" and "Mommy, I love you." And she'll ask your infant for help. For example, she'll ask for a drink of water, and when you hold the cup to her mouth, and she'll make drinking sounds. Likewise, she'll say "Time to brush my teeth!" If you "brush" her teeth with her toothbrush, she will make realistic tooth-brushing and gargling sounds. Using the Potty The Gotta Go Doll's central feature, of course, is using the potty. Sit the doll on the toilet, and it will sound like she is "going" in the toilet -- and she will talk about the process, too, humming a tune before she "goes," and saying "I really have to go!" or singing "Pee pee in the potty!" and other phrases that will be funny and delightful to a young infant. In the meantime, when the doll is positioned on the toilet, the "water" in the toilet disappears, with the expected "potty waste" appearing in its place. Your infant can then flush the toilet. The "water" will reappear, while the toilet makes a very realistic flushing sound. Wash the doll's hands at the sink -- turn the right faucet to hear realistic running-water sounds. Once the fun is finished, your infant can simply lay the doll on her back. She'll yawn, say she is "sleepy," and the doll will enter a sleep mode. Move the doll to "wake" her up. She makes a yawning sound and is ready for play again. Realistic Play with No Mess! The realistic sounds and randomized, interactive phrases from the doll make a delightful stimulation for role playing. And we personally were relieved to find that, unlike other "pee pee" dolls, this one doesn't require real water -- and real mess -- to provide realistic, interactive fun. However, we did find it a little bit difficult to understand some of the doll's phrases -- it took a couple of listens to figure out what she was saying. And our particular doll, unfortunately, makes a tooth-brushing sound immediately after her water-drinking sound, whether you're brushing her teeth or not. But these two minor inconveniences won't detract from a infant's enjoyment in taking good care of this little doll. What's in the Box Little Mommy Gotta Go Doll; bathroom with toilet, sink and 2 shelves; toy toothbrush, toothpaste, cup, hairbrush, soap dispenser, and towel

This doll's gotta go!
I bought this doll because my granddaughter wanted it; it was her only request of Santa. I liked the idea that it did not really drink and wet. Now I wish I had gone for a drink and wet one. The doll is not played with. The accessories tend to fall over and they fall apart easily. For $[...], I expect a little more quality in a toy. Also, she never stops cycling through the same phrases, so she has to go over and over.

Fun and educational
This doll is a bit on the expensive side (if you get it at full price), watch for a sale like I did and you can get it from Amazon through target for $40.00. The doll is well constructed and offers a whole playset of fun. She brushes her teeth, washes her hands, goes to the bathroom, etc.... The doll really helps little ones to grasp some of the concepts that we as adults make them deal with, flushing the toilet, washing hands, etc...
Now they get to be the mommy and take care of there little ones. The doll is a ton of fun. My 3 1/2 year old couldn't wait to get it and was not dissapointed at all when she did.

This may help you decide if this doll is worth it...
My daughter saw the commercial and fell in love with the doll and her cute song. It was the same song I sang to her when she was learning to potty, what a coincidence! I should have had it trademarked, oh well. Anyway, I spent about 10 minutes playing with the doll and noted all of her sayings.
I also noticed that the toilet seat is really a button, and when you place the doll on the toilet it activates the button and there must be a sensor too, as the doll "knows" when to pee and p00p and won't say anything pee or p00p related unless she is on the toilet. She also doesn't always say p00p things, only about half the time she's on, which is like a real kid, they don't p00p every time. She may also fool you, saying she has to go, then you put her on the toilet and she'll say, "Nope, no potty."
There must also be a sensor that tells when she is vertical or horizontal, as she says sleepy things when she is reclining or lying down. I also noticed that if you ignore her request to drink or "go", she might say "Please" or the "Try again later" saying.
Inside the toilet is a disk that spins. When the toilet is flushed the "p00p/pee" side of the disk flips and it changes to clean water. You should then close the lid. When you open the lid to have the doll "go" again the disk will flip to show the pee/p00p again. There is a clear plastic barrier in toilet so the kids can't reach in and touch the rotating disk.
So far after a whole day of play the "bathroom" is still intact, we haven't had a problem with the shelves staying on at all, they seem pretty tight. If you are having problems with the shelves, make sure you look underneath to make sure it's snapped into place.
She raises her hands and turns her head quite often. When she's inactive you can lift her arms up and down, they move in unison. Her legs can be moved 180 degrees, but it's a tight rotation, kids may have trouble adjusting them. She has a speaker on her belly in the shape of a heart with a button in the middle to get her talking.
One thing I would change is I wish they made this doll with brown hair speaking English. My daughter will never be a natural blonde and I always buy her dolls and ask others to buy her dolls with brown hair to encourage her to have a positive self image. The English speaking choices are Caucasian/Blonde Hair or African-American/Black Hair.
My 3 year old daughter absolutely loves playing with this doll. My 5 year old son even played with it for a while doing what the doll requested. I can hardly believe I spent so much time writing this review, but I really like this doll and wanted others to know all of the features before they shelled out the big bucks. Way to go Fisher Price, you make a good doll.
